Early Childhood Screening
In Minnesota, all children aged 3 to 5 are required to complete Early Childhood Screening. Screening is required for your child’s entry into public school kindergarten. Early Childhood Screening identifies, at an early stage, possible health or learning concerns, so that children can get help before starting school. The Early Childhood Screening requirement is met if your child has participated in a screening through Pine City Schools, Head Start, Child and Teen Checkups, or equivalent screening through another provider. To schedule a free screening for your preschool child, please contact the Elementary ECFE Office at 320-629-4030.
Early Childhood Screening dates for the school year are always Oct -May on the last Wednesday of a month. (if the last wednesday falls on a no school day-- then the previous wednesday will be used instead-)
Child Find
Child Find is a program that actively seeks to locate and identify youth, ages 3 through 21 years of age, who may have developmental delays or educational disabilities and may need special education and/or related services. Child Find activities, when conducted in the school, may include teacher observations, parent observations, and conferences to discuss your child’s strengths and needs. These activities may lead to a formal process designed to further explore ways to assist your child. This process may result in a recommendation allowing your child to receive special education services. If you are concerned about a child 3 years of age or older, please contact Pine City Elementary School Early Childhood Program at 320-629-4030.
